Privacy Policy
Last updated: 8 September 2026
OpenVisionXR does not collect any personal data. There are no accounts, no analytics, no tracking and no third-party SDKs. Everything the software handles stays on your own devices and your own network.
This policy covers both parts of OpenVisionXR: the macOS software distributed from this website, and the OpenVisionXR app for Apple Vision Pro distributed on the App Store.
What the software processes
To do its job, OpenVisionXR handles data that is by its nature personal — where your head is, where your hands are, what your microphone hears. It is worth being precise about what happens to it:
- Video rendered by an application on your Mac, encoded and sent to your headset.
- Head, hand and finger positions and controller input, measured by the headset and sent to your Mac so the application can respond to them.
- Audio, including microphone input when the application you are running uses it.
- The network address of your Mac, so the headset can find it on your local network.
All of it travels directly between your Apple Vision Pro and your own Mac, over your own local network. None of it is sent to us. None of it is sent to any third party. None of it is written to any server. When you close the application, it is gone.
What we collect
Nothing. We operate no accounts, no login, no telemetry, no crash reporting service and no advertising. We could not identify a user of OpenVisionXR if we wanted to.
Diagnostic logs
The Mac software writes technical logs to your own computer, under
~/Library/Logs/OpenVisionXR, to help diagnose problems. These files stay
on your machine and are never transmitted anywhere. If you contact support and choose
to send us a log, you are sending it deliberately — we use it only to answer your
question and delete it afterwards.
Permissions the headset app requests
visionOS asks for your permission before the app can use these. Each is used for one purpose only, and in every case the data is sent to your own Mac and nowhere else:
- Hand tracking — to place your hands and fingers inside the VR application.
- World sensing — to position the streamed image and the controllers in the space around you.
- Accessory tracking — to read the position of spatial controllers.
- Local network — to find your Mac and receive the stream.
- Bluetooth — to connect spatial controllers.
You can withdraw any of these at any time in the Settings app on the headset. The corresponding feature stops working; nothing else changes.
Purchases
The Apple Vision Pro app is sold through the App Store. Apple processes the payment and we never see your payment details. Apple provides us only aggregate sales figures, which contain no personal information. Apple's own privacy policy governs that transaction.
Children
OpenVisionXR is a professional development tool and is not directed at children. We knowingly collect no data from anyone, of any age.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be published on this page with a new date. If a future version of the software were ever to collect data — it does not today — we would ask for your consent first, clearly and before the fact.
